Выражение "дом на полпути" обозначает место, где могут остаться покинувшие тюрьму заключённые или выписавшиеся из больницы люди с проблемами психического здоровья, чтобы заново научиться жить обычной жизнью. Соответственно, быть на полпути к такому месту означает быть на полпути к освобождению или выздоровлению.
