The exterior of the Camden Brownhouse
The Camden Brownhouse is a fictional pub located in London, United Kingdom. On November 5, 1998, the Gorillaz made their live debut at the pub and opened their set with Punk but, had to end prematurely due to a riot breaking out in the crowd. Immediately after the gig the band was signed by EMI A&R man Wiffy Smiffy to the label.[1]
In a 2016 interview with NoiseyW, Murdoc stated:[2]
ā | "How did it go? Like any paradigm-shifting event, it overloaded people's synapses. They were so shell-shocked a massive riot broke out (which I predicted). The place got trashed, there were multiple casualties, and I picked up a range of STDs. Top night." | ā |
