Chu-Li Shewring is an English filmmaker and sound designer.
Role in Gorillaz[]
Chu-Li worked on the sound design for the music videos for Feel Good Inc. (alongside Seb Monk), DARE and Dirty Harry.[2] Flying Ant Films, her production company, also helped produce visualisers for Glitter Freeze and Superfast Jellyfish.
She is also credited as a 'Special Agent' for Zombie Flesh Eaters in the Phase One: Celebrity Take Down DVD.
Career[]
After graduating with a BA in Sound Art from the London College of CommunicationW, Chu-Li went on to study sound design at the National Film and Television SchoolW.[3] There, she met Adam Gutch, a fellow filmmaker with whom she founded Flying Ant Films in 2008. The pair produced their first feature film, The Spirit, in 2010. In 2014, their short film, Working to Beat the Devil, was nominated for a Tiger Award for Short Films at the International Film Festival RotterdamW.[1] Their 2022 short film, Fawley, won the Best International Short Film award at Sheffield DocFestW. It was also screened at the ICAW and at the Bertha DocHouse at the Curzon Bloomsbury in 2023.[4]
Her credits as a sound designer include HungerW (2008), Robinson in RuinsW (2010), Two Years at SeaW (2011), All This Can Happen (2012), and The FallingW (2014).[5] In November 2017, she was awarded the Jules Wright Prize, which recognises the work of female sound designers. She currently works as a Senior Lecturer in the MA Filmmaking Department at Goldsmiths, University of LondonW.[3]
