Darren Galea also known as DJ D-Zire is an English musician, DJ and member of the virtual band Spacemonkeyz. He played the turntables at Demon Days Live.
Role in Gorillaz[]
Darren Galea remixed the Gorillaz song Tomorrow Comes Today into a dub styled song with guest vocals by reggae artist Earl Sixteen, thus creating the track Tomorrow Dub, which was featured as a B-side track to the single releases of Tomorrow Comes Today. Damon Albarn liked Tomorrow Dub so much that he asked Galea to remix the whole self-titled album. After that Galea formed a virtual band Spacemonkeyz with Richie Stevens and Gavin Dodds. On the 1st of July, 2002, Spacemonkeyz released the remix album Laika Come Home. There, Tomorrow Dub was re-worked and re-named into the track Bañana Baby. The album's only single Lil' Dub Chefin' reached #73 on the UK Singles Chart.
Later, in 2005, Galea worked on Chopper Remix of the song Dirty Harry with Richie Stevens and Stuart Zender. It was released as a B-side track to track's single release.
Darren Galea joined the Gorillaz Live band in 2005 and played turntables. He was a part of the band on all of the live shows between 2005 and 2006.
Musical Career[]
Darren Galea was a member of pop-funk/acid jazz band Jamiroquai along with fellow Gorillaz’ live bandmate Simon Katz and Spacemonkeyz' members Richie Stevens, Gavin Dodds and Stuart Zender.
