Double Bass is the ninth track on Gorillaz' 2001 album Gorillaz. It is mainly instrumental, apart from a brief spoken interlude.
Recording[]
For this track, Russel bought a tiny microphone with a suckerpad on the end that when put against the side of someone's head, it transforms what they're imagining into music. Murdoc instructed 2-D to imagine the following:
| “ | Imagine 1950's-based rockabilly Brian Setzer from The Stray Cats knocking back a load of cough syrup, then going to a fairground with a couple of mates. Halfway through, Brian`s going to start feelling a bit sick he now drunk some Jagermeister, and the thick gooey brown liquid's making him see things that aren't there. He`s trapped in a mad world of fairgrounds, visuals, and bubbles. What does that sound in your head?! | „ |
2-D also imagined the sounds of the game Pong while recording.
Russel only added the break, sung by Damon Albarn.[1]
Lyrics[]
[Damon Albarn]
All of which makes me anxious.
At times unbearably so…
