George Washington Benson (b. 30 March 1943) is an American Jazz guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Role in Gorillaz[]
Benson contributes guitar on The Now Now’s lead single Humility. He later performed Humility with Gorillaz onstage at the Demon Dayz Festival LA in 2018.
Musical career[]
Benson began his professional career at the age of 19 after playing as a child prodigy, and first rose to fame in the 1960s from performing with Jack McDuff and others, which was soon followed by a successful solo career that eventually landed him a certified triple platinum album, Breezin’, in 1976. Benson is best known for his influence in the Jazz genre, with his most well known singles being Breezin’ and Give Me The Night.
