IDLES are a British post-punk band formed in Bristol in 2009. The band consists of Joe Talbot (vocals), Adam Devonshire (bass), Mark Bowen (guitar), Lee Kiernan (guitar), and Jon Beavis (drums).

Role in Gorillaz[]

In 2025, IDLES featured on the third single from Gorillaz' ninth studio album, The Mountain, titled The God of Lying. The collaboration was first teased by the band's appearance on the "Wall of Collaborators" at the House of Kong exhibition.[1] Additionally, the band's vocalist Joe TalbotW joined the band on stage during the House of Kong "Mystery Show" on 3 September 2025 at London's Copper Box ArenaW.[2]

Musical career[]

Joe Talbot and Adam Devonshire formed the band in 2009. They first met each other at sixth form college in Exeter before moving to Bristol, where they studied at the St Matthias CampusW of the University of the West of EnglandW and decided to start a band. They spent eight years performing and released five EPs before releasing their debut album, BrutalismW, in 2017 to critical acclaim. The following year, they released their second album, Joy as an Act of ResistanceW, which was followed up by their first UK number one album, Ultra MonoW, in 2020. CrawlerW, their fourth album, was released in 2021 and was nominated for Best Rock AlbumW at the 65th Annual Grammy AwardsW. Their latest album, TangkW, was released in 2024 and became their second to reach number one in the UK. In 2025, IDLES composed the soundtrack for Darren AronofskyW's film Caught StealingW.
