Latin Simone (Que Pasa Contigo) is the twelfth track on Gorillaz' 2001 album Gorillaz, sung by Ibrahim Ferrer, and the Spanish version of the song Latin Simone, in English, sung by 2-D. The original version appeared on the band's first commercial release a few months prior, the "Tomorrow Comes Today" EP and on the 2002 album G-Sides (US and Brazil versions only) one year later as a regional and the second track.

Recording and Information[]

Real Life Story[]

Co-creator Damon Albarn, created the song under the name Acoustic 2. The original version of the song was in English, before getting Cuban singer Ibrahim Ferrer to do the vocals. His lyrics were written by Cuban singer and songwriter Lázaro Villa, a close friend of Ibrahim Ferrer. This version was placed on their debut album instead of its English counterpart, "Latin Simone", because Damon Albarn decided that this version, with Ibrahim Ferrer's vocals, sounded much better.

Lyrics[]

Déjalo si quieres continuar
Hermano, sal, ilumina tu vida
Todo el cielo aplastándote
¡Dime que harás!
Enfréntalo. Ilumina ese amor antes que se vaya

Algo siempre te entristece
Cuando todo va bien
¿Qué pasa contigo?
¿Qué pasa contigo?

Déjalo si quieres continuar
No ocultes tu alma al sol
Tienes una vida preciosa
¿De qué sirve?
Si solo muerte sobre media ciudad

¿Qué pasa?
¿Qué pasa contigo?
¿Qué pasa contigo mi hermano?
¿Qué pasa contigo?

Escucha a tu propia voz
¡Salva tu amor!
¿Qué pasa contigo?
Antes que se vaya
¡Si todo va bien!
¿Qué pasa contigo?
Mírate a ti mismo
¡Enfréntalo!
¿Qué pasa contigo, mi hermano?
Ven, ¡Anímate!

¿Qué pasa contigo?

English Translation[]

Leave it if you wanna continue
Brother, go out, light up your life
All sky crushing you down
Tell me what are you going to do!
Face it, light up that love before it's gone

Something always saddens you
When everything's going well
What's the matter with you?
What's the matter with you?

Leave it if you want to continue
Don't hide your soul from the sun
You have a beautiful life
What's the point?
If there's only death in half town

What's the matter?
What's the matter with you?
What's the matter with you, my brother?
What's the matter with you?

Listen to your own voice
Save your love
What's the matter with you?
Before it's gone
If everything's going well!
What's the matter with you?
Look at yourself
Face it!
What's the matter with you, my brother?
Come. Cheer up!
What's the matter with you?

Trivia[]

  • This version of Latin Simone acts as a response to the original song, where 2-D shows and talks about explicit issues with himself, with Ibrahim Ferrer answering, trying to assist and comfort him.
    • While this version asks "What's the matter with you?" ("¿Qué Pasa Contigo?"), the original English version asks "What's the matter with me?".
  • The song's album artwork displays the original lyrics instead of Lázaro Villa's new lyrics.
