Pauline Black

Belinda Magnus known professionally as Pauline Black (b. October 23, 1953) is an English musician and singer-songwriter from Romford, Essex best known for being the lead singer of the 80s two tone ska band The Selecter.

Role in Gorillaz[]

Pauline Black is featured on the deluxe Humanz track Charger (Alternate Version), an alternate version of Charger that is on the album's super deluxe edition. She later has joined Gorillaz on Humanz Tour. She also appeared on the fifth episode of Things I Like by Russel Hobbs podcast.

Musical career[]

Black’s career started over 40 years ago and she is best known for her work as the front woman of 80s two tone ska band The Selecter, known for starting the ska revival movement and having one of the most diverse lineups in a ska band. Their biggest hits are the songs On My Radio, The Whisper, Three Minute Hero, and Missing Words. They were the contemporaries of bands like The Specials and Madness. The band split up in 1982, but have since had many reunions and have released over a dozen albums together. In 2001, she formed a supergroup called 3 Men & Black with members of The Stranglers, Stiff Little Fingers, and The Selecter. Dean Chalkley and Harris Elliot included Black as a part of their Return of The Rudeboy exhibition in 2015.
