Rockit (also written as Rock It) is a song by Gorillaz originally released on the Gorillaz.com website on the 8th of December 2004 in promotion of the Reject False Icons campaign, as the first song released from Phase Two.
The song was later reworked in 2007 and featured as the seventh track on the band's second compilation album, D-Sides.
Information[]
Rockit was recorded during the first part of the studio sessions for Demon Days, back when the album was still in its early stages and was known as 'Reject False Icons', being one of the first tracks taken to Studio 13. It reused many concepts from the scrapped Gorillaz movie, Celebrity Harvest, which were still prevalent at this point of the making of the album. Due to the shift in themes of the record and its relatively unserious tone, the song was quickly dropped in favour of other ones, and was instead used to announce the band's comeback from their two year hiatus between Phases One and Two, accompanied by its own music video and the Reject False Icons campaign.
The song contains many influences from the electronicaW music genre, and some of its elements bear a notable resemblance to another song that is also called 'RockitW', by American musician Herbie HancockW.
Scenes from the recording of Damon Albarn's vocals alongside producer and engineer James Dring was shown in the behind-the-scenes documentary Bananaz.

- Main Article: Rockit (Music Video)
The music video for Rockit consists of the four band members walking through a twisted forest, seemingly on the outskirts of Kong Studios, with 2-D carrying young Noodle on his back. Many bodiless heads of various celebrities appear throughout the video, referencing elements from the scrapped Gorillaz movie, Celebrity Harvest. The statue of Pazuzu is also shown singing along to the track, specifically the "rock it" lines.
The music video for Rockit was directed by Jamie Hewlett and animated entirely by the Zombie Flesh Eaters. It was was made in late 2004 and, at the time, was released exclusively on the band's official website and as a promo DVD. This version of the music video also featured an earlier mix of the song, which was changed to the reworked version on later releases.
Lyrics[]
I'm walking to the something
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
(Collapse)
I'm drinking too much blah-blah,
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
(Fall out)
I'm feeling really blah-blah, I want to blah, blah, blah
(Collapse)
And in the end it means
I blah blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
(Deep end)
I got myself together
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
(Watch out)
I didn't need the patience, life blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
(Collapse)
Don't you get too close, or I'll blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
(Break up)
Stick it up your nose
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
(Deep end)
I didn't mean to do it (Rock it, rock it)
It loved me in my head (Rock it, rock it)
I tried to be a charmer, but (Rock it, rock it)
I got a bit hopeless instead (Rock it, rock it)
The world is very sexy (Rock it, rock it)
It's part of my collapse (Rock it, rock it)
I'm walking to the something (It's part of my collapse)
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah (It's part of my collapse)
I'm drinking too much blah-blah, (It's part of my collapse)
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah (It's part of my collapse)
(Fall out)
I'm feeling really blah-blah, I want to blah, blah, blah
(Collapse)
And in the end it means I blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
(Deep end)
I didn't mean to do it (Rock it, rock it)
It loved me in my head (Rock it, rock it)
I tried to be a charmer, (Rock it, rock it)
