Gorillaz - Silent Running ft Adeleye Omotayo (Official Video)

The official music video for the Gorillaz song Silent Running, fifth single of the album Cracker Island. It was released on 8 February 2023 along with the single itself and was produced and animated by independent animation studio Nexus Studios.

Synopsis[]

The video starts with a landscape of the scene where the video takes place - under the Hollywood sign. We then see members of the Forever Cult walking into a torch-lit hall where 2-D is suspended over a pit, a system of pulleys ready to lower him down. Noodle, Murdoc and a dazed-looking Russ hide behind a pillar, with Murdoc staring in awe at Moon Flower.

2-D is gradually lowered down into the pit, where a creature seems to be waiting to eat him. Murdoc opens a bottle labeled Essence Of Murdoc. This receives a disgusted reaction from Noodle, who then slaps him. Once Noodle, Russ and Murdoc are in disguises, 2-D is still being dropped slowly into the large hole with Moon Flower watching over him. At the last minute, she decides to save 2-D, much to the dismay of the creature in the pit.

Meanwhile, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel are discovered by the other members of the Forever Cult. They drop their disguises and fight them, which Murdoc seems to be opposed to. He rushes over to help Moon Flower, who is pulling 2-D up from the pit. He looks over at her and winks, making Moon Flower drop the rope that is suspending 2-D and sends Murdoc crashing into a metal girder. As this happens, his green bottle flies out of his pocket and into the creature's mouth, who is expecting to eat 2-D. The creature then writhes in pain and falls to its knees before exploding into smoke the same colour as Essence Of Murdoc.

2-D flies out the pit whilst all members of the Forever Cult turn into dust. Moon Flower collapses, upsetting Murdoc, who decides to run away due to the sound of police sirens. Russel, Noodle, and a very drowsy 2-D are then found by police officers and put their hands up in surrender, with Murdoc fleeing the scene in the background.
