Skepta2

Joseph Junior Adenuga (b. September 19, 1982) better known as Skepta is a British Grime MC from Tottenham, London.

Role in Gorillaz[]

Skepta provided vocals on the single How Far? from Gorillaz' seventh studio album Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez alongside one of the co-founders of the Afrobeat genre, Tony Allen. The song was released as a tribute to Allen, since he passed away on April 30, 2020.

Musical career[]

Skepta originally started off as a DJ for local grime collective Meridian Crew, known for their performances on pirate radio broadcasts such as Heat FM 96.6, where he was originally given the moniker Scoopa Daniels. Not long before Meridian Crew’s split in 2005, Skepta took an interest in MCing and briefly joined the grime collective Roll Deep with his brother Jme before they both formed Boy Better Know in 2006, which was shortly followed by a sound clash with grime artist MC Devilman in what today is known as the biggest clash in grime music. He released his self titled mixtape Joseph Junior Adenuga shortly after the clash and released his debut solo album Greatest Hits a year later in 2007, both of which have been followed by various studio albums and mixtapes since. Skepta is one of the most popular emcees in the grime genre and is a household name in the UK.
